Introducing new foods
UV light for birds

One of the delights of the modern human and animal food industries is that more and more natural ingredients are becoming available to innovative companies like ours. The Birdcare Company is at the forefront of introducing natural ingredients to help keep your birds in the very best of health. These ingredients also stimulate an excellent response from young chicks whether hand reared or parent reared.

So what is a nutricine?

Modern human and animal foods now contain ingredients called nutricines.  Whilst nutrients are essential for life nutricines are not. But nutricines are components of foods that exert a beneficial effect on health rather than contribute to nutrition.

Of course many of these nutricines are available from natural sources like plant extracts. The nutricines used by The Birdcare Company have properties of antioxidants, antimicrobials and fibre. They also act as prebiotics - ie they help create a good gut environment for beneficial bacteria (probiotics).
We do not believe there is a role for all nutricines in our bird's diet. Providing artificial enzymes is likely to inhibit the chick's natural enzyme production. This may make it dependent on enzymes in the future and create problems when the supplementary enzymes are withdrawn. Nor do we incorporate emulsifiers or colours into our products. These three nutricines are used in the human and animal food industries for cosmetic purposes like "mouth feel" and palatability. They are of no benefit to hand rearing. We do use some flavourings as food is of no value if the bird won't eat it!

So we could say that nutricines help turn "adequate food" into excellent food". At the Birdcare Company we belive in giving birds the very best not just enough to get by on.

Experience tells us that adding nutricine containing Birdcare supplements to hand rearing formulas and adult diets based on pellets or seeds can have a significant beneficial effect on feather quality, speed of growth and chick health. And we are very excited about the benefits birds and their owners can gain from using the unique technologies that we offer.

We use a blend of eight plant extracts which combined we call Flourish. We incorporate Flourish into a number of our products. Initially we used it in breeding products to stimulate chick growth and health so you will find it in Feast eggfood and ProBoost SuperMax.

More recently we have introduced a product of its own called Flourish .  In this product it is combined with our Maxima technology and extra vitamin C. This product can be used preventatively with pet birds and as a treatment for sick pets and breeders. It will not interfere with any drugs your vet may prescribe.

We have also incorporated Flourish herbs into our emergency nutrition product Poly-Aid (Survive) and our product for birds with long term gut disease Special Needs Diet (PDD Food).
